Who Is The Greatest Ever Blues Woman?:

Adam answers your questions..on anything!

For some festive fun, we have asked website readers and friends to pose one question each to Adam, on any topic. Enjoy..!

Q: If you could choose one artist to collaborate with (alive or dead) on your album who would it be and what song would you  choose?

Hmm,  well I usually say Muddy Waters when I get asked this, but today I’m feeling a bit more adventurous…I’d have liked to have written a song for Sinatra…I think that would have made my dad quite proud.

Q: If you were told  you could never play guitar again, what instrument would you like to play instead?

Oh that’s a horrible question! Who would be telling me this and why?? Or have I had some nasty accident? Either way, it doesn’t bear thinking about. You should be ashamed of yourself for thinking such ugly thoughts at Christmas.

Q: What has been the highlight for you in 2010?

Musically? Getting the album out at last after a few delays, and then getting a 5 star review in R2 magazine….but also some of the shows were great fun – Strawberry Hill was a special day – especially as my little girl came to see me…and I think at last she kind of understood what I do….I think she may have wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer, so there may have been a bit of disappointment!

Q: What has been the most bizarre compliment you have ever been given as part of the band?

It was at the Cellars in Eastney many years ago…a guy came up to me after the show – I think he was a bit worse for wear – and said “you lot are brilliant, so tight..but you need to lose the keyboard player..!” Either he had confused us for another and or he had been hallucinating.

Q: Has a member of the band ever had to lend you a pair of pants?

Haha, no! And I would rather go commando!

Q: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

That’s a bit deep isn’t it?? Musically, I wish I was a better piano player. Personally, I wouldn’t know where to start.

Q: What has been your worst style decision in you opinion?

Again, I don’t know where to start…I was once in a band that used to dress up in sailor’s outfits…and in my first ever gigging group we wore dresses…hmm, there’s a theme there…thank God the Mustangs keep it fairly simple….though Jon would look lovely in a Summer dress.

Q: What would be your ideal venue for a gig?

A huge sold out festival, or a packed blues club – I really don’t mind as long as it’s full and the sound is good and everyone is having fun. Oh, and somewhere with good dressing rooms! I’ve changed in too many toilets over the years – literally.

Q:  I see from your website that your mum is a folk singer what are the chances of having her guest on one of your albums?

Mum has long retired, so pretty much nil, but we used to sing together a lot when I was starting out. She specialized in Mediaeval English Folk music, so we may yet have to draw on her expertise when we are looking for a new direction!

Q:  If you could go back in years, what age would you go back to and why?

I’d go back to 27, when I would have been old enough to know what I was doing, but just about young enough to still get away with it.

Q:  How many guitars do you currently have? And what is the one you have your eye on next?

Last count was about 24….next up?? Hmm, am not sure my flat can take it..it’s like the Fat Man Eating scene in The Meaning of Life…”one more wafer thin guitar……?”..My Flat would explode….! But seeing as you ask,  Gretsch Electromatic, with a Bigsby trem.

Q: Have you ever slated someone that pissed you off in the medium of song?

 Only myself.

Q: Have you ever gained an injury from leaping round on stage and what was it?

Yes! I wrote about this in my blog – it was at Skeg last January – great gig, but I did a jump and landed very heavily on my heel…I had to finish the show in real pain and .it was agony for weeks after, but I don’t think anyone noticed….or cared.

Q: What song best sums you up as a person?

Of ours?? Haha, a few song titles seem appropriate…..probably one for the others to answer.. I think Derek has written a song about me on the next record..and I’ve written one about Ben, so it’s all getting a bit weird!

Q:  If you could have done anything differently this year, what would it be?

Ah, good question. We’d have done Holland in 3 days instead of 2…that was one intense weekend!

Q: Have you ever been too drunk to play a gig?

Um, well, not with the Mustangs, no. But Derek and I did a duo show at the Cellars many years ago, and I had had a bit more than I realised. It was a fun show, put it that way. Derek maintains that I was pissed, but I plead just over exuberance.

Q:  Where do you hope to see the band this time next year?

Another rung higher on the ladder of progress.

Q: Have you been a good boy this year and what are you hoping to find in your Christmas stocking?

Of course! I always eat my vegetables. An original 1952 Fender Telecaster, thank you, Santa.

Q: What song do you put on to chill you out?

I wouldn’t put just one song to chill me out, but any lovely early 70s west coast soft rock, or acoustic singer songwriter vinyl….Neil, Dylan, Eagles, Cat..

Q: What words best describe next year’s new album?

It’s going to be a Prog Blues Classic! Really, we are very excited about it. We have almost finished writing for it and recording starts in the New Year. The material is our strongest yet, and we are gigging a lot of it already so the sound and performances should be spot on. Derek has really come to the fore with some great songs that I think will be show stoppers. We can’t wait to get going on it..!
