Mustangs Sign To New Label
Trapeze Music & Entertainment Ltd. has signed The Mustangs, the highly successful and popular London-based blues/rock band, for a 3 year term. Under the new arrangement, the label will release the band’s brand-new CD “Shaman & The Monkey” as well as taking over the sales, marketing and distribution of the band’s existing catalogue of five CDs.
The Mustangs have been performing and recording since 2002, and have built up a formidable reputation and following as a result of regular appearances at most of the high profile blues festivals and club venues throughout the UK, with recent gigs at the Maryport and Swanage Blues Festivals, and the Boogaloo Blues Weekend on the Isle of Wight. Their repertoire of blues-inspired original material sets them apart from the mainstream of bands performing classic blues, and is the basis of their popularity.
Although Trapeze is best known for its substantial catalogue of collectors’ and specialist material on the Acrobat label, the deal represents a further expansion of the company’s musical strategy, which is focusing on developing relationships with heritage and contemporary artists in the blues, rock and folk worlds to market both new and re-issued material. Trapeze is distributed in the UK by Discovery records and in the USA by MVD.
For The Mustangs, the deal is intended to bring the band to a wider audience and give them access to distribution channels, both in the UK and internationally, which they have not fully reached to date, and to provide a platform for expanding their profile at a key stage of their careers. The band comprises Adam Norsworthy (guitar & vocals), Derek Kingaby (harmonica), Ben McKeown (bass), Jon Bartley (drums).
John Cooper, CEO of Trapeze, commented: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to sign a band that is out there performing high quality original material on a regular basis, and clearly has staying power, and we believe that we can help them, and other artists like them, to do some excellent business and develop their presence in a market which the major companies largely ignore.”
Adam Norsworthy of The Mustangs said: "We're very excited to have this opportunity to work with Trapeze, who we are sure can help bring our music to a wider audience. The next few years are going to be very exciting, not only for the band, but hopefully also for our fans, old and new".
