Blues In Britain Magazine - November 2006
The South Coast based band formed back in 2001 and have been garnering good reviews in the South, including some Festival appearances (Boogaloo, Swanage and Guilfest). The line up is Adam Norsworthy, Derek Kingaby, Ben McKeown, Jon Bartley. This, their third album, contains a dozen originals. The style is blues-rock, blues influenced music with a high-energy input.
There’s an excellent starter in the funky “Can’t Find A Lover” with good guitar and harp. The title comes from the lyrics of the next song, “In Two Minds”, a Free-like number with big riffs. Things then become a bit downhome/countryish on “Livin’ My Life Alone”. “Take No More” is a gritty song with touches of Wolf and Billy Boy Arnold, liked this one. “Baby Oh Baby” is an uptempo bouncy number about a bumpy relationship. After the ballad “Wired”, comes the semi acoustic “Over Too Soon” with good lyrics – another of my favourites. “Put The Lights Back On” is a full throttle rocker whereas “I Can’t Let Go” is a bluesier number and another goodie. “The Eyes Don’t Lie” has big Who like riffs and the closer is “Blue Dawn Rising” a big blues rock ballad, the longest track but only just over the 4 minute line, so we are talking punchy and to the point numbers here.
This is very much a band performance not epic solo country. The harp is often used to fill out the sound rather than as a soloing instrument. Adam’s vocals and guitar are good and the rhythm section are flexible enough to handle the various stylings. The only weakness for me is that some lyrics come over as slight. Others though are good, “Over Too Soon” in particular.
A good album, worthy of investigation and if they’re half as good live as their PR notes suggest then get along and see them! Rating: 8
